Whey Protein Can Fight Fat

Whey Protein Can Fight Fat

According to a new study, adding whey protein to your diet can reduce levels of liver fat by 20%. After only four weeks of supplementation researchers saw significant reduction in liver fat in obese women with fatty liver disease. Whey protein was also shown to improve blood lipid profiles, which is an important marker of heart disease.

This research suggests that a high protein diet may, in the long term, reduce the risk of fatty liver disease and heart disease in obese patients. Both conditions can be closely associated with the metabolic complications of obesity, including impaired glucose tolerance. The whey protein, which was administered at 60 grams daily (in three 20 gram doses) in this study, showed no adverse effects on glucose tolerance, and no other side-effects were reported.
