There is good news for all those concerned about proteins linked to liver damage. A recent discovery has come up with the protein Sab, or SH3-domain binding protein 5, as an important precursor to liver damage prevention. The damage is mostly due to medications like acetaminophen, or the everyday Tylenol. Acetaminophen is the most common reason of a liver disease and/or liver failure ushered in by drug use in the States and U.K.
The research work comes from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC), who discovered that inhibition of the protein saves the liver from acetaminophen toxicity.
The research revealed that the protein on the mitochondria of liver cells in mice, when silenced, protects against liver toxicity by inhibiting a protein enzyme (JNK) which is activated by the drug and te over-expressiion of which leads to cell death.

Two dairy companies, Fonterra and UK-based First Milk, have declared a strategic joint venture to integrate their intellectual property and industry expertise and produce the finest whey proteins for Fonterra's growing food ingredients business in Europe. The deal will allow Fonterra in accomplishing its goal to meet the nutrition demand of European consumers; and enable First Milk to add value to the whey side stream of the cheese making process. The new product will apply First Milk Lake District creamery's premium whey proteins to Fonterra's nutrition ingredients like PowerProtein and ElevateProtein, based on Whey Protein 80% ingredients (WPC80). The strategic initiative will not only provide differentiated and healthy whey protein ingredients to the major food and beverages firms in Europe, but also enhance returns of the dairy farmers.

According to reports, researchers from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California have discovered a liver failure protein. The researchers say that this protein in the body acts as a protective shield to the liver and defends it from acetaminophen toxicity.
This newly discovered protein may also protect the liver from getting damaged by harmful and toxic drugs like acetaminophen and other stressors.
Acetaminophen is a common drug that is found in many common medicines for flu and cold. However, it causes extreme damage to the liver and even acute liver failure!
The researchers say that the combination of protein Sab and enzyme JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase), that triggers cell death and regulates cell metabolism, protects the liver from getting damaged.
